ABOUT IMPACT OFF ROAD
Impact Off-Road is a family business owned and operated by Chris McPhail and his dedicated team. Impact Off-Road have been importing Impact Quadtrucks for over 20 years. The idea originated after Chris's dad, Brent, brought an early Daihatsu Hijet 4WD from Japan to use on their 400 acre farm west of Hamilton.
At the time Chris was 10 years old and quite capable of driving a quad bike but there is always an element of concern whenever he rode the quad. When Brent spotted this little Daihatsu Hijet and noticed it was 4WD he thought it would be perfect for the kids to learn to drive around the farm in.
One thing led to another and in time we had many neighbours, visitors, friends and friends of friends asking if we could get them one. While we were well aware, when we first started, that there were already a number of these vehicles dotted around the country they were by no means readily available and many had “died” due to lack of parts.
The initial ones we sold had standard wheels & tyres and it was amazing where they would go. One of our first customers then tried the first one fitted with ATV wheels and tyres and phoned to say that it had completely transformed the vehicle and “he could now drive right to the top of his silage stack!!".
This was the start of our Impact Quadtruck development. Since then we have continued to add and offer as many new options as we can come up with – this is generally in response to customers requests, “can you do this?" or "can we have this fitted?”. While we are happy to offer a “basic” vehicle (no extras added) our experience has shown that 99% of customers want the vehicle fitted out ready for full use when it arrives at their property.
Our range of add-on accessories includes ATV wheels & tyres, bull-bar, tow bar, roll-bar with cab-over bars, suspension lift kits, flood-lamp & aux plug (for running any electrical gear from the tray – e.g. C Dax sprayer), front & rear plastic splash guards (a must with fat wheels!), chassis/body rust treatment, electric winch (wired front & rear), aftermarket stereo's, rear rubber tray mat, stock crate, electro/hydraulic tipper, etc, etc.
Impact Quadtrucks, with ATV wheels fitted, are very stable and are excellent for carrying a load or towing, e.g. bale feeder, fert spreader, calf trailer, harrows, and so on. With a 1900mm x 1400mm tray they are excellent for carrying all your gear, especially fencing equipment, and the beauty is all the gear is generally still there when you arrive on the job!
The enclosed cab with 2 seats means a passenger is welcome (and legal) and you don’t have to wear a safety helmet when driving, like you do on a quadbike. The cab, complete with heater, is an excellent option especially in Winter!
“A lot of young dairy farmers/sharemilkers have small children to cope with while bringing in the cows and have found these vehicles to be the perfect answer ”. For the real smallies a baby seat can be strapped into the front passenger seat. The low ratio gearing means you can follow the cows at a less-than walking pace without having to stop or depress the clutch constantly.
Horse studs are now using them, in particular the tipper models, as they are the ideal size to get into the sheds and horse boxes for mucking out and also very quiet around the stock. We are very mindful that we are selling a new and used product and as such feel it is very important that all vehicles are thoroughly checked prior to sale. All our vehicles go through a minimum 42 point service check .
We also keep a large range of very competitively priced spare parts for all models from engines and gearboxes to suspension components and lamps. We can also source new parts from Japan. Most of our parts go to resurrect vehicles which have been here for some time and out of service due to lack of parts in the past.
Due to the various makes, models, engine sizes and gearbox types available it is best to contact us directly to discuss your exact requirements so we can match the right vehicle to your needs. Our ambition is to see every farmer using and enjoying this mode of transport around their property. We now have thousands of these vehicles operating throughout the country – there is sure to be one somewhere near you. We look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
